This time of year it is difficult to find organic strawberries (or sometimes any strawberries at all). After a couple of weeks of not being able to find any, I decided to try Trader Joe's Frozen Organic Strawberries. Since I needed strawberries for my Red Velvet Cake (see previous post), it was the perfect time.
I decided that I would try to thaw the strawberries out separately to avoid the "mush" effect that often happens with frozen fruit. When, I opened the bag, I was pleasantly surprised to find large, whole strawberries. I placed the strawberries in a dishes lined with paper towels, hoping that the paper towels would absorb some of the moisture during thawing. The paper towels did do the trick and the strawberries were still pretty solid after thawing. They sliced pretty well for use in my recipe. They remained solid enough that I think that I will be able to send them to school with my daughter for her snack.

At about $2.50 for a 12 oz package, I will be making use of these strawberries over the winter. Next summer, I am going to try to freeze some of my own!
