Our drive along the Mississippi River in Minnesota treated us to spectacular bald eagle sightings. While we have definitely seen an uptick in their population, each sighting is still equally magnificent. Perched along the Mississippi River within the range of the bald eagle is the National Eagle Center in Wabasha, Minnesota. The National Eagle Center provides a great foundation for understanding the majestic bald eagle residents of Minnesota!
The National Eagle Center is the fruition of the work of community members in Wabasha. The center provides a multimedia approach to understanding bald eagles and their habitat. The center's structure itself yields to the inspiration bald eagles provide. The center also provides the opportunity to learn about other raptors as well. The central skylight with raptors circling is an impressive focal point!

Throughout the center, you will find binoculars to help you look for native bald eagles and other birds. In addition to affording views through windows, there is also an outdoor overlook.
The National Eagle Center is home to several bald eagles and a golden eagle. Each has been rescued. The viewing room allows for quite an up close look. There also is an interpreter who can help you with any questions about eagles. We had quite a few and he was able to answer all of them!
The interpretive center houses exhibits that appeal to all ages. The eagle's nest is particularly fun and gives insight into the life cycle of eaglets. In this area we also discovered a section where you could make rubbings representing natural elements. Another nice hands-on section!
The National Eagle Center is quite a fun and educational stop as you explore the Mississippi River in Minnesota!
