After soaking in some spectacular water views in the Quad Cities, we had to spend some time on the water ourselves. Cue the Channel Cat!

Channel Cat dock in East Davenport, Iowa |
The Channel Cat runs through the summer months and weekends through October weather permitting. The ferry has four stops along the Mississippi River-- two in Iowa and two in Illinois. You can hop on and hop off at the stops to explore or sit back and enjoy the entire loop on the Mississippi -- which is what we did!

Incredible homes along the Mississippi River in Iowa |
You do get quite a different perspective of your environs on the river. We spotted some remarkable houses along the shore! They look so lovely perched up above the river.
|
Outcrops and water levels along Mississippi River |
We also spied some rock cuts and noted where flood levels had been marked.
|
Dixie steamboat on the Mississippi River |
An elegant Dixie steamboat was parked at Bettendorf, Iowa. The construction of steamboats is truly an art form. What beautiful vessels!
|
Old I-74 Bridge |
We also enjoyed spectacular bridge views. Interesting tidbit -- this bridge is actually going to be replaced by a nearby bridge under construction.

Sailing by other boats on the Mississippi River |
We had such a lovely trip on the river! The
Channel Cat provides a nice way to travel on the Mississippi and visit several different sections of the Quad Cities. The trip is particularly fun for families and one of the stops is near the John Deere Pavilion. What a fun excursion for families!
