This week, we took a road trip to Annapolis, Maryland! Over the next couple of weeks, I will share our discoveries and stops on the way and back. Overall, the trip from the Chicago area to Annapolis is about 11-12 hours, therefore there is a lot to discover there and on the way! We were able to stop in Pittsburgh on the way there and back:
We also made a stop at stunning Great Falls Park which straddles the Maryland and Virginia border.
Rapids at Great Falls |
We stayed on Kent Island and enjoyed a wonderful marina view on the Chesapeake Bay. We also learned about the history of the Chesapeake Bay region and walking along the Bay.
In a Annapolis, we enjoyed tea in the historic Reynold's Tavern which dates back to 1747.
We also enjoyed walking along historic streets, did some local shopping
and mused at the Chesapeake Bay.
We visited the Maryland State House and learned about how the building was constructed, the changes over the years and its historical significance.
Of course, we ate some more:
Maryland Crab Cake -- Yum! |
Before heading home, we made a trip to visit family in Pennsylvania and visited stunning Longwood Gardens the gardens of Pierre du Pont. We had a wonderful day learning history wrapped up in magical gardens!
German Village in Columbus, Ohio:
On our way home, we stopped in German Village in Columbus, Ohio where we shopped and ate local!
We were able to visit all of this and more on a week long adventure. I hope you can join me over the next couple of weeks and explore each location further!
