A Little Time and a Keyboard: Roadtripping: Wildlife Prairie Park

Roadtripping: Wildlife Prairie Park

Tuesday, June 19, 2012

When looking through our pictures today, I noticed some that were taken at Wildlife Prairie Park outside of Peoria, Illinois. My husband and I have been going there for ages and are actually disappointed whenever we fail to visit when in Peoria!

Wildlife Prairie Park focuses on many animals that are native to Illinois as well as some that were brought by the pioneers. The Park serves as an engineer for conservation, education, rescue, and rehabilitation.

While the Park has much more to offer, we love to just amble through the animal areas. We especially love to look for bison in the pasture.

The last time we visited, we stumbled on some wolves resting. This made for some cute pictures:

The Park is picturesque and makes for a nice, peaceful trip.

Besides viewing the critters, the Park has plenty of more fun for the kids. There is a pioneer farmstead to check out. Also, there is a train (check the schedule for costs and times) which I am sure many of the little ones will love. My daughter had a great time posing for pictures with some of the cutouts and statues in the Park. There is a playground and large slide--fun!

Food is available but hours are seasonal. There are picnic areas throughout the Park.

If you would like to make a visit, take a look at this great map! The map is well detailed and gives you tons of information about the Park.

For hours of operation and admission prices check here.

If you are in the Peoria area, Wildlife Prairie Park is definitely worth the visit!

  2. The last time we were in the area, we stayed it the Mark Twain in Peoria. We were happy with the accommodations but not so happy with the breakfast. But, we weren't there for the breakfast, so we weren't too annoyed!
