A Little Time and a Keyboard: Pot O'Gold Windsock {Craft}

Pot O'Gold Windsock {Craft}

Sunday, March 17, 2013

In the spirit of the day, we decided to make a Pot O' Gold Windsock. My intention was actually to make it earlier in the week. However, I was pretty ill, so it did not work out! In the end, I think that it was quite fitting that we made it on St. Patrick's Day!

Here are the materials you need:
Material roundup--my daughter wanted to add her pot o'gold to the pic.

1 toilet paper roll
1 sheet of black construction paper
tissue paper in the colors of the rainbow (I used remnants from gifts.)
yellow paper (doesn't matter what kind--also used scraps here)
ribbon or string
glue
single hole punch
scissors

The project is easy. First, we cut our construction paper so that it would fit around the toilet paper roll. We glued the construction paper to the roll. You may have to smooth it out and press on it for a little bit to get it to stick. (This would be a good spot for parents to helps. Kids' patience with holding the paper may wear thin!) Then, we let it dry.

As the roll was drying, we cut out our strips of tissue paper. We cut them about 1" thick. Length is up to you. We also cut out little pieces of gold.

Then, we glued the tissue paper strips to the inside of the toilet paper roll, making our rainbow. Once they are glued in, you can trim them if the lengths are uneven. (Which may happen with little fingers working on this.) Next, we glued our gold pieces to the bottom of the toilet paper roll. We let the project dry.

Once the project is dry, punch two holes out of the top of the project, one on either side of the roll. Finally, thread with string and hang your new decoration!
