The bistro is very contemporary. The food has a decidedly French flare with a dash of Italian thrown in. The bistro has an appealing prix-fixe option. At $32 for a full three course meal, the prix-fixe is a very reasonable choice for dinner. The Barrington Country Bistro has a substantial wine menu with a healthy number of wines by the glass. I like this because if my husband is not in the mood for wine, I have a wider selection of wines by the glass to choose from. Often, selection is diminished by the glass and larger by the bottle.
If you veer from the prix-fixe, however, you will not be disappointed! To begin our meal, we had a Caesar Salad. We split a salad, so below you will see a half-sized portion:
My husband opted for the onglet for his entree. He loved his meal so much that he practically licked the plate clean.
I had the Scottish salmon with exotic mushrooms. The salmon was cooked well--perfectly flaky and the mushrooms melded well with the dish. I felt that the dish may have been a little over-sauced. However, extra sauce can be avoided!
For dessert, we tried the Creme Brulee. I am not normally a Creme Brulee fan, yet the addition of lavender to the dish intrigued me. I loved the addition of fresh blueberries and the light hint of lavender. The lavender definitely was interesting on the palate!
Barrington Country Bistro is a fresh yet elegant restaurant. We enjoyed our meals and are already tempted to return! Barrington Country Bistro is located at 718 W Northwest Hwy in Barrington, Illinois. The menu is updated daily, so be sure to take a peek before you visit!
