Summer always brings back memories of enjoying cotton candy on the boardwalk, chasing the ice cream truck and licking vibrant pinwheel lollipops at the fair. Labor Day is around the corner and many of us are busy planning some end of summer festivities. Wouldn't it be fun to add a whimsical and sweet candy-inspired cocktail to your line up? Summer is all about indulging in childhood favorites--so adult beverages made from your favorite candy that even taste just like your childhood favorite with a little something extra would be a perfect addition to a summer party!

Authors Katherine and Flannery Good wanted to put the FUN into cocktails, hence they embarked on a journey to create cocktails that let imaginations run wild. They began with the blog Fashionably Bombed  featuring many of their zany concoctions. The blog is really worth a stop--especially with summer's last hurrah rapidly approaching! I am sure that you will find some candy-cocktail delight to tickle your fancy! Now, Katherine and Flannery have created a bound volume of their creations.

I had a chance to check out Flannery and Katherine's new book, Candy Cocktails: Fun and Flirty Drinks with a Sugar-Kissed Twist. I was not sure what to expect before receiving the book but once I opened it, how could I resist making a cocktail? The recipes are pretty inventive, using candies that I would never thought could be melded into a drink--Pop Rocks, Lemon Drops, Nerds, the dust from a Sour Patch Kids package--truly imaginative! The book lays out everything you need to know to craft these tasty beverages from showing pictures of glassware needed to instructions for crafting tempting candy rims and garnishes to measuring tips to candy-liquor infusion preparations.

Of course, we had to try out one of these tasty beverages! Being Mojito fans and having a lovely patch of mint in our backyard, we opted to give the Sour Lemon Drop Mojito a whirl. For this recipe, we did not need many ingredients. In fact, you may just find that you have all of the items for many of the recipes right in your kitchen.  For the cocktail, we made an infusion which included mixing Lemon Drops with rum in a mason jar and letting the mixture set for awhile. Really simple! Here is what we needed for the infusion:

Shake, shake, shake and let it set for at least 24 hours.

The next day, my husband and I mixed our drinks. In addition to the infusion, we needed mint, fresh lime juice and soda water. Pretty easy! **My husband and I split one Mojito, so normally the glass would be full.**

Yummy cocktails, indeed! We certainly enjoyed our Sour Lemon Drop Mojitos and loved the novelty of using Lemonheads in our cocktails!

Festive, yummy and like a trip to a summer carnival without leaving the house! Love it! No matter the theme of your summer party, I am sure that you can find one of Katherine and Flannery's particularly enticing. Summer is definitely the time to be a bit playful and these drinks fit the bill!
