The back-to-school season is the perfect time of year to start something new. Over the next few weeks, we will all be getting ourselves organized for the new academic year and will be considering what activities to sign the kids up for. Have you ever considered language learning as part of your child's activities? Young children are at a particular advantage for language learning and can pick up another language quite quickly and adeptly. My daughter has been enrolled in the French language programming at Language Stars for the past few years and I have to say that I have been pretty impressed with her ability to pick up the language--in particular the accent! When we have a conversation in French, she often corrects my accent--which is very much welcome because it is not the best!
If you have thought about introducing your child to a new language, now is the time to take a peek at Language Stars! Language Stars is hosting a Back to School Open House now through August 16. During the Open House, you can sign your kids up for a FREE class at your preferred center and you can witness what Language Stars is all about! Language learning at Language Stars is through a process called Funimmersion where kids learn through play and learn using topics that appeal to them. Recently, my daughter has been learning about the beach--in French--so when we visit the beach this summer, we will be able to incorporate beach vocabulary in French. Fun! Language Stars has programs in Mandarin, Spanish, French, German, Italian{only at select Chicago area locations} and Arabic{only at select DC locations}. So, plenty of languages to experience!
Parents do not need to know a language for their children to learn it. Language Stars does provide some assistance that will help parents that do not speak a particular language to help reinforce it at home. I have found that during our own Language Stars journey that my French vocabulary has increased and that my husband is even picking up words. We even have a few words that we all prefer to use the French rather than the English--for example are dogs are called "chiennes" and both respond to the French.
Besides hosting the Open House, Language Star locations will be holding free Ice Cream Socials! Ice cream socials are another fun way to learn about Language Stars. Be sure to find out when your center is holding one and sign up to attend. **There are Language Star Centers in the Chicagoland area and the Washington, DC area {with Northern Virginia and Maryland locations}.
