During our recent visit to Three Oaks, Michigan, we happened to be strolling down Elm Street and discovered a new store in town: The Village Store. The Village Shop is one of those places that just speaks to us because the products are all locally made--most made in the surrounding area in Michigan. {We did spy a chocolate bar made in Indiana, but American-made is always good with me!} A wide range of crafts, food items, beauty products and curiosities can be found throughout the store.
Jonathan Udesky, the store's curator, is very friendly and happily took us on a tour of his store pointing out different products while giving background information about the product and maker. Some of the products are truly innovative and eco-friendly. I love these baskets made from cardboard boxes!
Jewelry, food items, paintings and more will ignite your passion for exploring!
The Village Store also has fresh baked goodies that are vegan and gluten-free as well as artisan chocolate bars. By the entrance, you will also find some natural cosmetic products. While visiting, I picked up some items from Esmie's Cabinet including Back the Bug Off that uses essential oils rather than harsh chemicals to repel mosquitoes. I have been using it when harvesting from my garden because for some reason, there are mosquitoes all over that area. Of course, I do not want to use harsh chemicals every day. I have to say, Esmie's has been helping ward off the mosquitoes--and smells good!
In the store, you will also found a 100% organic neck pillow created by Jonathan himself. This pillow may make sleep a little more comfortable for us avid travelers!
All in all, a great store to add to your Southwest Michigan itinerary. So refreshing to find a place selling so many American-made products from the immediate area and a couple of the surrounding states!

ReplyDeleteI like finding these types of stores and featuring them in my Midwest Market Basket series. This looks like one I should check out next time I'm out that way.
ReplyDeleteI really like the cardboard baskets, And the American made chocolate. Of course, I might like any chocolate. :-)

I love stores that sell local products. It's always fun to buy from the local talent when on vacation.
