Through the National Backpack Program, the Office Depot Foundation helps children in need prepare for the new school year. Since the program began in 2001, 3.3 million sackpacks have been given away with 350,000 donated this year. The sackpacks are designed primarily for children in elementary school and contain a zippered pencil pouch containing a ruler, eraser, sharpener, pencil, pen and crayons. The sackpack themselves are made with sturdy, water-resistant materials and come in five different patterns.
Sometimes, it is easy to overlook great initiatives that right in front of us. I think it is wonderful that Office Depot is helping so many children as they go back to school. As part of the program, every Office Depot and OfficeMax store in the United States received 50 sackpacks to give away to area charities. What a great way to spread the help! Plus, the foundation held events throughout the country. Thanks Office Depot!
We did get to try out one of the sackpacks to show you what it is about. I have to say, they are pretty sturdy--sturdier than other bags I have seen using the same model. They are in festive, fun colors. Take a look:
To help spread awareness about the program, Office Depot has generously provided us with one sackpack complete with the pencil case and goodies to give away to a lucky reader! The giveaway is open to US residents 18-years-old and older and runs through 9/21/14. Office Depot will mail the prize to the lucky winner!
