Charleston, South Carolina is only about 2 hours from Savannah and on the way from Savannah to Wilmington, NC. Since we would be going right by, we thought that we would stop in Charleston for a quick lunch. We headed for the Charleston City Market area to have a look around and find a place for a bite. On the recommendation of a local, we ate lunch at the Low Country Bistro, a new restaurant in the market area. The bistro is located in a gorgeous brick building and serves up fresh and upscale food at good prices.
Since I had been eating heavy for a couple of days, I went the route of half sandwich, half salad. I could not have been more thrilled with my meal--a portabella sandwich with goat cheese, spinach and focaccia paired with a mixed green salad with dried cherries, pecans, rosemary vinaigrette and goat cheese--ok, so not entirely light but worth it!
After lunch, we walked a bit around the market to check out the vendors. Then, we ambled towards the harbor and found a fountain that was pretty lively!
We could see Fort Sumter from the pier which was pretty neat!
Such a beautiful city to walk around even if just for a little while.........
Charleston was the perfect spot to stretch our legs for a bit while on our trip. There are historic buildings and shops all over to explore, so inviting! Really a fun aside but truly worthy of a more extensive visit next time!
