This winter, I have decided to focus on hot chocolates. I am not a fan of cold winter temps but I also get stir crazy and need to get out of the house. So, I am going to check out some different hot chocolates in the area for a little *sweet* winter fun! Last weekend, we went out to Leonidas Chocolate Cafe to try some of their concoctions. Chocolate is certainly a big motivator for leaving the house despite a bit of snow!
It is important to note that besides hot chocolate, Leonidas provides a variety of Belgian and French delights. Crepes, Gaufres (waffles), croissants, pastries and chocolates---many, many chocolates--will tempt you. In addition to the sweet creations, Leonidas does also have savory crepes and croissants.
Choices, choices! Plus, you can watch the crepes being made at the crepe station which may be cool for kids!
However, we did come for hot chocolate and hot chocolate we did get! Leonidas has quite a selection of hot chocolates--Extreme Dark, Triple Chocolate, Mexican, Java Mocha, Java Vanilla, Butterscotch, Mint, Mont Blanc and Dulche de Leche. My daughter went for the Triple Chocolate which is combo of their dark, milk and white chocolates. The Triple Chocolate was a perfect blend of chocolate on a winter's day. I opted for the Mexican which is a dark chocolate with a bit of spice. This hot chocolate is very rich. My hot chocolate was not mixed perfectly so I had to mix some more on my own to break up some bitter clumps. Once I had it mixed, it was a nice spicy blend. We both ordered the small hot chocolate. I could only finish half of mine--it was so rich! So, I would recommend trying the small on your first visit.
We really enjoyed our hot cocoa break at Leonidas and will be back to try another option. If someone in your party does not care for hot chocolate don't fret--Leonidas also has many coffee options including French press!
Leonidas Chocolate Cafe is located at 1348 Shermer Rd in Northbrook.
