During the Fourth of July weekend, our family headed to Louisville for a little adventure. Louisville is about a 5-5.5 hour drive from the Chicagoland area making the city a great option for a long weekend. The charming city, friendly residents, great food, inspiring cultural treasures and precious views of the Ohio River keep us coming back again and again! We have visited Louisville a few times during longer vacations to explore other places as well. So, it was wonderful to spend an entire three days exploring the city.
This next week, we will explore some of Louisville's offerings for families including the historic Seelbach Hilton downtown, exciting Churchill Downs, baseball heaven at Louisville Slugger and more. Of course, we will have to dish about Louisville's great eats and hospitality!
Overall Louisville is truly a beautiful city to walk around! The Riverwalk and Waterfront Park area present spectacular views of the Ohio River, Indiana across the river, bridges and even some watercraft including nostalgic Dixie boats. Many events are hosted along this little slice of heaven including the Louisville Orchestra and a collection of local bands on the Fourth of July! A magnificent experience!
The breathtaking Waterfront area is a good way to begin your Louisville vacation and easily provides peace and tranquility. Waterfront Park includes plenty of space for picnics, a couple of playground areas, tree groves and more. Needing to stretch those legs some more? The Big Four Bridge allows pedestrians to cross the Ohio River from Louisville over to Jeffersonville, Indiana and back. The converted truss railroad bridge provides pedestrians a scenic 1-mile walk round trip 24/7. Inspiring views of the city and a great way to get you ready to appreciate Louisville!
Walking around the downtown, you will quickly learn that Louisville is a special place bursting with its own flavor. Grand old structures among magnificent new ones always has us spending time admiring architecture.
Sculptures, water features, horses and more treasures can be found while exploring downtown Louisville! We walked several paths multiple times and found new treasures each time!
Join us this week for more on Louisville for families! We are excited to share the Louisville Love!

Looks like a fun time Mel. If it is a good walking city you better believe I am in. I love a good city for walking and exploring; best way to see virtually anywhere.
