Fall is the perfect time for a family getaway to a cabin! For the past year, we had our sights set on spending a weekend in a cabin with dreams of waking up to nature and easing into the evening around a fire pit. As fall approached, we began a search for a little cabin getaway and stumbled on quite a prize: Little Pond Lodge in New Lisbon, Wisconsin!
Little Pond Lodge ended up being quite a fit for our family. The retreat is family-owned and from the minute you check-in you will feel part of the Little Pond family! The office functions as a gift shop sporting a few needs and some nice locally sourced items fostering appreciation for community. That feeling of community immediately ignites a sense of home making you feel at ease and ready to relax. Just what you want on a weekend getaway!
Accommodations:
The property includes a lovely wooded area, a couple of ponds and sweeping views of the night sky. There are four cabins for rent as well as the lodge where we stayed, the loft and the luxe (which is more of a retreat place for couples). Hammocks, tire swings, chairs for relaxing and more will invite you to repose for a bit outdoors and enjoy peace.

The lodge was bit larger than our needs, so it was quite magical staying there! Inside are two bedrooms as well as a loft with two queen beds. Each room is spacious and ready for a family!
There is a full kitchen, bathroom and sizable living area. The living room houses a lovely gas fireplace that we enjoyed both in the evening after making s'mores at the fire pit and in the morning as we took our time easing into our day.

The cabins are a bit smaller than this accommodation. The attention to detail on the lodge indicates that a stay in one of the cabins would be just as relaxing and comfortable. We are eager to try one of the cabins in the future!
Dog Friendly:
Although we did not bring our dogs on this trip, we were happy to learn that Little Pond is thoroughly dog friendly! I was honestly a bit shocked when researching cabins to learn how many are not dog friendly. What screams bring along fido more than a vacation out in the country? Little Pond really lays out the welcome mat for dogs and even has bowls ready to go in your accommodation and a list of local day spas and doggie daycares for your pooch to enjoy while you are exploring. Dogs are welcomed to enjoy splashing in the ponds and there is a doggie wash booth to clean them off!
Location:
Little Pond Lodge is about 20 minutes from Wisconsin Dells, so a great spot to stay and relax while enjoying all of the attractions in the Dells. Various hiking and outdoor recreational areas are nearby like Castle Rock Lake, Buckhorn State Park, Necedah National Wildlife Refuge and Mill Bluff State Park (where we hiked). Plus, the location is not too far from Carr Valley Cheese in Mauston where you can sample quite a variety of artisan Wisconsin cheese--who can resist? Also, Burr Oak Winery and Fawn Creek Winery are nearby for tasting experiences. A wonderful location for getting away from it all!
To Know:
You will need to bring your own towels and toiletries. Also, you will want to take advantage of the kitchen so plan ahead for some family meals! Of course, you will need ingredients for s'mores! If you need, there is a grocery store in Mauston. You can purchase wood at the retreat. Wood cannot be brought across state lines and wood needs to be purchased within 5 miles of the property. This is to decrease the chance of spreading tree disease and pests. If you are bringing fido, you will need fido's cage in case you need to leave him/her alone. Or, I recommend checking out one of the local doggie daycares. However, many preserves will allow dogs on hikes so check into those for something to do as an entire family! As for Wifi, it is very sketchy but you are going to relax--so no worries!
The Rest We Needed:
This trip was just what we needed to get away! I was eager for some time away from social media and internet, so this was the perfect place to unwind and unplug. My daughter had a fabulous time going on walks with us, helping with the fire, making s'mores, resting in the hammock and just being away from everything. We really enjoyed our stay and will be back!
