Roti Mediterranean Grill just opened in Northbrook and we took a peek to give you the scoop. This was my first visit to a Roti, so I was pretty excited! Both falafel and hummus figure prominently in my diet--I have been known to savor 1-2 packages of hummus a week--so I knew immediately what I wanted to a sample. However even after looking at the menu, I did not realize how much we would have to choose from until our visit.
Backing up a bit, the new Roti in Northbrook is conveniently located on Skokie Blvd. near the new Mariano's and a host of shopping. So, a wonderful quick option when you are out and about. The interior has a fairly sleek design. The table we sat at was tucked a bit away which is nice. The overall design is open and airy. While the service is fast, the ambiance of the restaurant lends itself more to relaxing rather than merely a quick in and out. Plus, Roti has beer, wine, a variety of teas and more--beverages that you enjoy to sit for a little and drink.
Sizable Range of Healthy and Vibrant Food Options:
Roti has managed to forge a simple menu with a range of options and combinations. I love that the majority of the ingredients are right there for you to see, everything fresh and vibrant. You can choose from a sandwich, rice bowl or mixed greens. What I thoroughly love about the greens is that there is a choice--not just one option. You can choose from romaine, baby arugula, spring mix or dark greens. Of course, the choices don't end there....plenty of veggies, veggie combos, sides and sauces to choose from as well as proteins including falafel, chicken roti, steak roti, chicken kabob and salmon. We cobbled together two rice bowls with plenty of items to taste.
Our rice bowls provided a fun tasting of what Roti has to offer. The meal was quick but refreshing--a departure from other quick options.
Diving into our bowls was quite an adventure. I especially enjoyed the falafel and tomato and cucumber salad. I also enjoyed the cauliflower salad but did find it a little more on the sweet side than I was expecting. When you visit, I do advise monitoring how much is put in your bowl because one of my sides was just a dot and had I been paying attention I would have asked for a little more. We were thoroughly delighted with the freshness of each item.
We are always impressed when we can find a place that serves quick, fresh food that also is on the healthier side. A welcome addition to the area! There are several Roti's in the Chicagoland area, so really a great food option to keep on your list!
