• January 15-February 21 Enchanted Railroad at Morton Arboretum, 12 model trains traveling through the seasons, LEGO train car made of 2,500 bricks by artist Sean Kenney, free with Arboretum admission, get timed ticket at Visitor's Center, $9 Adults ages 18–64
  $8 Seniors ages 65+  $6 Youth ages 2–17 
• January 16-March 26 Once Upon a Time....Exploring the World of Fairy Tales at Arlington Heights Memorial Library: new play exhibit where kids can step into 7 different fairy tales, geared towards children ages 3-10, see other events associated with exhibit

Wednesday, January 20:

• January 20-23  Illinois Snow Sculpting Competition, Rockford: Changed to 1/27-1/30!!!!

Friday, January 22:

• January 22 Frosty Family Fun, Birchwood Rec Center, Palatine, 6:30PM-8:00PM, indoor snowman building contest, winter games and more indoor fun, $5 per person, register
• Also, Once Upon A Time, Enchanted Railroad and Illinois Snow Sculpting Competition.

Saturday, January 23:

• January 23-24 Free Days at Field Museum for Illinois Resident, must show proof of residency, see website, can bump up level of admission at a discount
• January 23-24 Chicago Travel and Adventure Show, Rosemont, 10AM-5PM Sat, 11AM-4PM Sun, travel experts from leading destinations, family entertainment, climbing wall, segway rides, camel rides and more, $16 pp, kids under 16 are free
• January 23 Juni B. Jones, Northbrook Theatre, 10:00AM or 1:00PM, $12 pp, reserve tickets online
• January 23 Gurnee's Frosty Fest, Bittersweet Golf Course, 10:30AM-1:00PM, ice sculpting, horse drawn carriage, sledding, dog sled demo, putting at 10th hole, games, s'mores and hot cocoa, free
