Explore Cinderella's Carriage |
Arlington Heights Memorial Library recently opened a new interactive exhibit this past weekend, so a cold January day inspired us to make a visit to this indoor haven. I have to say,
Once Upon a Time...Exploring the World of Fairy Tales did not disappoint as a mini-adventure for the 10 and under set.

Welcome to the World of Fairy Tales! |
Stories jump off the pages
When we read a good book, we feel like the story jumps off the page. Through March 26, 2016, seven fairy tales literally jump off the page at the Arlington Heights Memorial Library.
Cinderella,
Jack and the Bean Stalk,
Anansi and the Talking Melon,
Lon Po Po,
Thumbelina,
Beauty and the Beast and
The Shoemaker and the Elves inspire children to engage in the world of books not only through reading but also hands-on experiences.

Interactive story experiences
Each story unfolds in a diorama with places for kids to climb, crawl and play. Pick up Cinderella's buckets, serve Beauty's tarts, climb Jack's beanstalk, hide in Anansi's melon, save the children from the wolf in Lon Po Po, peek into the world of Thumbelina and cobble the Shoemaker's shoes! Each story has multiple interactive components that will have children connecting with each tale in tangible ways.

Kids are making shoes, too! |
When I first learned about this exhibit, I was a bit unsure about how it will be executed. However, each story unfolded in a compact yet easy to navigate manner. The stories are spread out throughout a portion of Kids' World. Most of the exhibit provides enough room for kids to get around but the Beauty and the Beast and Jack and the Beanstalk sections seemed to get a bit congested, most likely due to the beanstalk slide! However, the congestion is a testament to the captivating nature of the exhibit.

Special events will also be hosted in conjunction with this exhibit. Make a magic wand, build a castle, engage in royal alchemy, join the Jack and the Beanstalk Bash, build Hansel & Gretel gingerbread houses, make a puppet and more! Check the schedule at the
Arlington Heights Memorial Library to see a full list of selections and learn how to register.
