Wednesday Weekend Windup {A Country Fair, Art,Birds, Pizza and More}

Summer, summer, summertime! If you are like me, you are spending a good chunk of your days thinking about summer weekend fun! Here are my local picks for the weekend:

ROAD TRIP: Monument Square Art Festival in Racine June 11-12, special on Saturday, June 11--check out the Great Lakes Chalk Art Competition 

June 11-12 Lake Geneva Paint In, Lake Geneva, 11AM-5PM, local artists throughout town creating art, art for sale

Ongoing:

• April 8-September 25 Ribbit! The Exhibit, Morton Arboretum, Lisle, 23 larger-than-life copper frog sculptures of frogs performing different activities throughut the arboretum, free with admission, $14 Adults ages 18–64, $12 Seniors ages 65+ , $9 Youth ages 2–17 (discounted admission on Wednesdays)

Friday, June 10:

• June 10 Picnic in the Park, North School Park, Arlington Heights, 4:30PM-7:30PM, bring a picnic or buy from food vendor, live entertainment, moon walk, face painter and more, free
• June 10 Summer Astronomy, Heller Nature Center, Highland Park, 9:30PM-10:30PM, see Jupiter, Saturn and the Moon through a telescope, appropriate for kids ages 6 and up, kids must be accompanied by adult, free

Saturday, June 11:

• June 11 Free Bird Walk, The Grove, 8AM-10AM, hosted by Wildbird Shack, must RSVP by calling 847-873-0409 or emailing info@wildbirdshack.com, great for kids 8 and older but must be accompanied by adult
• June 11 Barrington Antique Fire Truck Show, Barrington Countryside Fire Station, Barrington, 11AM-1PM, nearly two dozen trucks shown, refreshments, free

• June 11-12 Promenade of Art, Arlington Heights, free admission
• June 11 The Smarty Pants Balloon Olympics, Mount Prospect Public Library, 11AM-11:45AM, balloon stage show, free, must register
• June 11 Free Guided Trail Walk, Fuller Air Station, Glenview, 11AM-12PM
• June 11-12 Spring Valley Country Fair, Schaumburg, 12PM-4PM, competitions, bake tent, farm equipment on display, livestock and domestic arts tents, $3 pp or $12 pp, 3 and under free
• June 11 Riverside Folk Fest, Cantigny Park, Wheaton, 1PM-4PM, live music, artisans, kids activities, food and more, audience will hear folk songs and Irish tunes, $5 pp or $20 per family, $10 for parking
• June 11 Block Party at St. Nortbert, Northbrook, 3PM-10:30PM, kids zone, DJ, food/beer garden, Semple band, $5 pp 3PM-7PM, $10 after 7PM, see schedule

Sunday, June 12:

• June 12 Trail Art: Site as Studio, Trailside, River Forest, 12PM-3PM, wander the trails and watch artists create works of art inspired by nature, free
• June 12 Garibaldi's Party on the Patio, Garibaldi's Hoffman Estates, 12PM, raffles, kids prizes, Elvis impersonator, DJ, games, popcorn, cart, food, dance contest, free admission
• June 12 The Buzz on Bees, River Trail Nature Center, Northbrook, 1:30PM, visit the beehives and pollination garden to learn about bees
