On the last day of our cruise, we stopped to spend the evening in Victoria, British Columbia. Since we knew our travel day the next day would be a long one, we opted just to spend some time walking around the city with no major agenda. Arranging for transportation from the cruise port was pretty easy. You could also walk but we decided to save our legs considering the next day ahead. We did see lovely Beacon Hill Park on our way downtown. A gorgeous park definitely worth a visit on a return trip!

The Grand Empress Hotel |
Our first discovery on our walk was the grand Empress Hotel! The 1908 chateau-style hotel cuts quite a regal figure. Brilliant flowers and ivy climbing the building add more eye candy!

Roger's Chocolates is the place for a taste of local flavor! |
Not too far from the hotel, we found Roger's Chocolates. The first Roger's Chocolates were made in 1885 by grocer Charles "Candy" Rogers. This store is the original location of Roger's Chocolates built in 1903. Oh my, there were so many fresh chocolates! My daughter and I each chose one---sea salt caramel for me and dark chocolate raspberry for my daughter. Both divine! Today, Roger's Chocolates is still locally owned by Canadian families. So, a true local experience!

Welcome to Chinatown! |
|
Interesting mosaic fountain. |
We perused some shops and then headed into Chinatown. Victoria's Chinatown is Canada's first so worth a bit of wandering. While not huge, there are some shops and restaurants as well as interesting details. Fan Tan Alley is a particularly narrow alley with some shops.

Music along the harbor |
After wandering through Chinatown, we headed to the marina. We stumbled on some live music which was pretty fun!

Willie's Bakery is Victoria's oldest bakery. |

Charming buildings throughout the city. |
The old architecture throughout the city adds charm and wonderment. Each building has its own character. Really, I could spend more time looking at the buildings.

A nice walk along the pier near the cruise ships. |
We did not want to spend too much time out and about with a few more things to get ready for our return to Seattle, so we headed back towards the ship. Before returning, we walked along the peaceful long pier. As we reached the lighthouse at the end of the pier, the sun was setting. A nice cap on our vacation and our evening in Victoria! There is so much more to do in Victoria, I know we will be back!
Other attractions to check out:
