Great weekend full of events ahead! Please be aware if there is no snow on the ground, there will not be snowshoeing or other snow activities. Here are my picks this weekend:
Ongoing:
- January 13 - February 19 Enchanted Railroad at The Morton Arboretum, Lisle. The display is quite intricate and families will enjoy picking out a variety of miniatures. Viewing the railroad is free with regular Arboretum admission.
Saturday, January 14:
- January 14 Community Fitness Open House, Community Fitness Center, Palatine, 10AM-2PM, snacks, raffles, goody bags, free health screenings 10AM-12PM, membership & training specials, free
- January 14 Frosty Fest, Bittersweet Golf Club, Gurnee, 10:30AM-1PM, horse drawn carriages, ice carving, snowshoeing, snow play, s'mores and hot chocolate, dog sled demo, winter games, free
- January 14 Vernon Hill's Winter Fest, Vernon Hills will host Winter Fest at Century Park from 11AM-2PM. Ice sculpting, sled dogs, ice skating, s'mores, carriage rides and more fun for the whole family. Admission is free.
- January 14 Popeye & Sailor, Mount Prospect Public Library, 11AM-11:45AM, Popeye and his dog Sailor awe with tricks, must register, free
- January 14 Winter Carnival, Northbrook 11:00AM-1:30PM at Meadowhill Park. Sled dogs, ice carving, ice skating and more fun will be available for families. Admission is free.
- January 14 & 15 Spring Valley Winter Fest at Spring Valley Nature Center in Schaumburg, snowshoeing, horse drawn wagon rides, marshmallow roasting, visits from a live wolf and coyote and more fun will brighten your winter day. The event is 12PM-3PM each day and costs $3 pp.
Sunday, January 15:
- January 15 Volo Bog's Winterfest Volo Bog from 12PM-4PM, afternoon of fun including live music, winter nature crafts, bog tours, xc skiing and more. Admission is free
- January 15 Frozen Fest, Chevy Chase Country Club, Wheeling, 1PM-4PM, watch a sing along Frozen 1:30PM-3:15PM, crafts, ice sculpting demo, face painting, free refreshments including snowflake cookies and more, free
- January 15 CSI: Critter Scene Investigation, Crabtree Nature Center, Barrington, 1PM, learn about our animal neighbors from the tracks they have left behind, free
- January 15 Two Owls and a Naturalist, River Trail Nature Center, Northbrook, 1:30PM, get up close with 2 resident owls and learn about their adaptations from a naturalist, free
Monday, January 16:
- January 16 The Science of Snow, Crabtree Nature Center, Barrington, learn about how snowflakes form, how snow can keep you warm, enjoy indoor and outdoor activities, free
