If there is a place those with a sweet tooth HAVE to visit in the Quad Cities, it is Lagomarcino's in Moline, Illinois. Sit down for a lunch, stay for a soda fountain treat and leave with some chocolate delights! If you ask locals where to go in Moline, they will no doubt tell you to go to Lago's!
Chocolate truffles galore at Lagomarcino's |
My husband and daughter ordered sandwiches and I ordered a tuna salad plate. While awaiting our meal, I learned a little more about Lagomarcino's history. Angelo and his wife Luigia came to Moline from Italy in 1908. They opened a shop that was originally a confectionery with a tobacco counter for cigars, cigarettes and a plug of tobacco. Interesting combo! Angelo also LOVED fruit. So, he also sold fruit making beautiful displays. Still in the family, Lagomarcino's now has deli with tasty sandwiches and salads in addition to the confections, soda fountain and fruit.

After, we explored Lagomarcino's other temptations. They have toasted nuts! Yum!
Plus, handmade chocolate galore!
A beautiful fruit selection is still part of Lagomarcino's. Now, you can have fruit baskets created for gifts!
Lagomarcino's is full of history with still more stories to come! If you have a moment, I recommend asking about some of the historic pieces in the shop. Throughout the shop, you will find some interesting pieces that tell Lago's history included the ice cream bucket they once used to bring ice cream to events.
