Last night we walked an eerie and creepy trail at the Chicago Botanic Gardens surrounded by the glow of 1,000 Jack-O'-Lanterns! The adventure was a truly fantastic way to spend a fall night!
The incredible creations are grouped into various categories. You will probably pause at each of them. The designs are so intricate. Truly amazing! Dragons, big foot and more made appearances.

A personal fave -- The Smashing Pumpkins:
One of my favorite sections highlighted the solar system.
There was also a section on Chicago sports teams and sports greats!
Some of my favorites were the Halloween specific jack-o'-lanterns:
Of course, there were lovely floral jack-o'-lanterns too!
Another treat -- we were able to walk through the "haunted" model railroad.
Several pumpkin carvers were stationed throughout. We could watch them carving and ask questions.
What a magical yet spooky evening! The carvers are truly talented! Watch for this event next year and add it to your Halloween celebration.
Things to know:
- There was a long, long, long line for parking. The gardens asked that guest not arrive more than 30 minutes before ticket time. However, I would tack on at least 15 minutes for parking. You can wait a bit in your car before going in.
- There are some snacks available.
- A few entertainers were scattered throughout.
- Tickets do need to be ordered ahead of time. The event can sell out fast, so be on the lookout.
- Some areas can get a bit congested.
- The event only occurs several days in October, so get a jump on planning.
