My daughter always gives us a hard time when we are on the road during a holiday. Sometimes, though, you cannot avoid it. Sometimes it is part of the adventure! I always try to bring the holiday with us, so that we still get to celebrate. Here are a few tips to help you if you are celebrating Halloween on the road:
- Bring along costumes, trick-or-treat bags and other festive items for dress up.
- Check calendars for areas you will be visiting ahead of time to learn about Halloween events, trick-or-treating in downtown areas or malls or more.
- Bring along special Halloween treats.
- Decorate the car with "spooky" items.
- Play Halloween Bingo: create bingo cards and see what Halloween items and decorations you find in your new location.
- Ask locals. Depending on your schedule, you can ask when you arrive or put out a question somewhere like TripAdvisor. This is a good way to find the homes in the area with the best decorations!
- Bring along a flashlight and spooky stories. Spend a hotel evening telling spooky stories and even creating your own.
- Add in a visit to a pumpkin patch or a haunted house.
- Halloween is also the perfect time to add in a visit to a candy factory if there is one where you are traveling.
- Find out if any of the local theaters are playing Halloween movies.
- Plant some Halloween surprises in your packed items. Maybe a plastic spider here, a bag of gummy bears here.
Great Ideas!! We haven't been on the road during Halloween yet, but what fun ideas to celebrate while on the road.
