On our recent trip to Kenosha, Wisconsin for Get Behind the Arts, we sampled a number of food options in the city. Each of the eateries we visited is unique and I can say that we would definitely return to each. Join us on our exploration:
Choo Choo Charlie's
Before we discuss food, I have to say that Choo Choo Charlie's is absolutely adorable and a fabulous place to bring children. Located at the Kenosha Metra Station, Choo Choo Charlie's delivers food all day long by train. Well, model train that is:
There are train station details all over and I absolutely fell in love with the napkin boxes representing each station on the Metra line from Chicago.
The menu is full of plenty of quick options. We were expecting a small menu and were pretty impressed with the number of choices. The selections are classic American fare and I do think this would be a great place for a malt. Alas, we were just embarking on our journey so we held off on malts. However, we did enjoy onion rings! We also enjoyed a grilled chicken sandwich, chicken fingers, mac-and-cheese and french fries. The mac-and-cheese is a real cheese mac-and-cheese. Yum!
If you are lucky, you will get to see Choo Choo Charlie! Fun, fun, fun!
Choo Choo Charlie's is a fun spot and a unique experience in Kenosha.
R'Noggin Brewing Company
In the evening, we ventured to R'Noggin Brewing Co. which happened to be not too far from our hotel Country Inn and Suites. We had to try beer brewed in Kenosha, right?
My husband and I shared a flight -- we tend to like different styles, so it worked out perfectly. We enjoyed the novelty of trying a few different beers. We enjoyed most of them and would love to return to taste again! Find something you like? You can take home a growler!
Mike's Donuts & Chicken
If you are looking for a truly unique and fun eatery in Kenosha, check out Mike's Donuts & Chicken. The names immediately piques interest, does it not? And yes, the eatery does have a menu item of chicken and donuts. From the outside you can already see the place is fun:
Then, there are the interesting donut combos:
Mike's Donuts & Chicken certainly had a constant flow of people coming in to purchase donuts during our visit. Of course, we too were planning to have donuts -- after dinner.
For dinner, we enjoyed hot wings, a side salad, a cheese burger, fries, waffle fries and a chicken sandwich. Big dinner and delicious!
Donut time! My daughter opted for a donut churro covered in chocolate. My husband and I shared a tiramisu donut. Yum and yum!
Sazzy B's
For Sunday brunch, we headed over to Sazzy B's. Sazzy B's has a slightly upscale atmosphere with a warm ambiance. We found it to be a nice spot for a pleasant brunch. We also found our meals to be inventive, great quality and really a great price for brunch.
I started my meal with a mocha. Loved the addition of cinnamon on top! I had a spinach, tomato and feta omelette with hashbrowns. Yum! My daughter devoured French toast and my husband had a skillet. The perfect meal before exploring!
Elsie Mae's Canning and Pies and Myrtle Mae's Sugar Emporium
No trip to Kenosha is complete with a visit to Elsie Mae's Canning and Pies and Myrtle Mae's Sugar Emporium.
Elsie Mae's uses local ingredients and traditional methods of pie baking and preserving to bring us tasty made in Kenosha treats! We love to bring home four mini pies on each trip. Elsie Mae's also has pot pies which we have yet to try. Myrtle Mae's is full of other sweet treats -- flavored sodas, ice cream, chocolates and more. My daughter couldn't resist a chocolate tulip full of chocolate ice cream:
As you can see, we had quite the sampling of delicious food in Kenosha! Great food is a part of the adventure!
Kenosha looks the perfect destination for foodies!
