After hiking in
Matthiessen State Park, we worked up an appetite. While researching places to visit Matthiessen, I learned about a sweet little bakery/breakfast/sandwich shop called
Nonie's Bakery and Cafe in Utica, IL. I was immediately in love. So, of course, we had to take a peek!

A case full of incredible fresh baked treats |
The bakery was already abuzz when we arrived. So, we knew we were in for a treat! We were quickly drawn to the dessert selection. HUGE baked goods -- many in bar format. Yum! We knew that we HAD to get a bakery item -- so we did -- a chocolate chip cookie bar!

Our fresh baked Chocolate Chip Bar was HUGE and delicious. |
Nonie's has a breakfast and lunch menu. The breakfast selections include quiche, pancakes, biscuits, scramblers and more. Lunch features sandwiches, wraps, salads and paninis. There also are several noshing items like fries and fried avocados. Nonie's has coffee concoctions as well. We ordered our sandwiches and had a seat. The cafe is very adorable and welcoming. There is also lovely outdoor and patio seating.

Pleasant, comfortable atmosphere |
We can tell that our sandwiches were made with care. I ordered a California Turkey Sandwich with fries. The bread was incredible -- well, I did enjoy the whole sandwich. But, the freshness of the bread definitely made a difference over other sandwiches.

Yummy California Turkey Sandwich with homemade bread! |
My daughter ordered the ham and cheese panini with chips. Another delicious sandwich with homemade bread!
|
Look how fresh that bread is! |
My husband went for the Trail Hiker -- totally appropriate since we just hiked! The Trail Hiker includes turkey, bacon, avocado, lettuce and tomato all on Nonie's fresh bread. The Trail Hiker is another great and filling sandwich at Nonie's!

Just look at that sandwich! |
As you can tell, we loved Nonie's! We often pack our own picnics on trips like this one to Matthiessen. I am glad that we stopped at Nonie's instead. We will be back!
