On our road trips, I often look for some type of local chocolate or ice cream to visit along route. I had heard from my friend Cindy at
Traveling Adventures of a Farm Girl about Pease's Candy in Springfield, IL and immediately put it on my list. On our way back from
Grafton, Illinois, we had the opportunity to stop and I am so glad that we did:

Pease's chocolate -- so in love! |
Pease's has been a Springfield treat since the 1930's. The candy company is even older having moved from Bloomington. The candy company still uses some of its original recipes and is family owned. Pease's is known for its chocolate, caramel, popcorn and roasted nuts. The store is full to the brim with quality temptations:

A wall full of candy and roasted nuts! |
More chocolate:
|
Cremes, truffles and fine chocolates! Oh my! |
Plus, Pease's had incredible cakes:

Incredible! |
We settled on both cremes and caramels. We ordered a box to go. The packing is wonderful for a gift!
|
The chocolates are DELICIOUS and make great gifts! |
We stopped at
Pease's Candy at 1701 S State St. in Springfield. Some of the candy is made in Springfield and some in St. Louis. You can also enjoy Pease's at Bunn-Gourmet. The Bunn name has a long history with Springfield as well beginning when Jacob Bunn opened the first retail grocery there in the 1840's. Pease's at Bunn-Gourmet also has a cafe and features locally sourced items including Pease's. The cafe sounds like an incredible experience with quite a few choices including quiche and pastries. Definitely worth checking out on a future visit!
