Lunch at Gillerson's Grubbery in Aurora, Illinois enjoying comfortable bar favorites with a twist.
Before our afternoon at the theatre at historic Paramount Theatre in Aurora, we decided to stop for a little lunch. My husband noted that
Gillerson's Grubbery uses a number of local providers and are big supporters of the local community, so we knew we had to check it out. Well, they have burgers too.... so there's that!

We aren't in Kansas anymore! Love the Wizard of Oz windows! |
However, I was not expecting to find that Gillerson's Grubbery had totally gotten into the spirit of the Wizard of Oz! The windows were absolutely AMAZING!

Gillerson's Grubbery is a fun, relaxed spot featuring bar favorites that are really kicked up a notch with some interesting twists. I personally am a huge fan of build-your-own-burger options, so I was thrilled this was an option. As I crafted my burger, I kept checking with the server to make sure that I did not make an unpalatable creation. My finished burger consisted of the black bean burger, red onion, tomato, braised mushrooms, avocado and roasted garlic aioli. My burger was delicious as were the fries! The meal was huge, so one to bring leftovers home from.

Sign me up for the black bean burger! Delicious! |
My daughter, the burger connoisseur for those that have not been reading for awhile, went with the Grumpy Patty Melt which consisted of a steak burger, pickles, both american and swiss cheese and grilled onions. Normally, the Grumpy Patty Melt is served on marble rye but my daughter chose a brioche bun. She also had tater tots. We did visit on a rather chilly day, so tater tots were a welcome comfort food!

My husband went with the Hodgepodge which is a rather interesting dish. The Hodgepodge includes fries, carnitas, fried Wisconsin cheese curds, chimichurri and garlic aioli. Talk about an indulgence! The Hodgepodge is pretty fun! My daughter enjoyed stealing a few of the cheese curds. A great treat!

The Hodgepodge is quite the indulgence! |
Gillerson's Grubbery also has a nice selection of craft beer including some local options. Overall, Gillerson's Grubbery has great food with a local vibe. We enjoyed our visit and look forward to returning during a future Aurora adventure.
