- Now Through February 3: Sinnissippi Station Model Railroad Exhibit, Nicholas Conservatory, Rockford, enjoy fun model trains in the lush tropical setting. See if you can spot Rockford landmarks in miniature. Check website for admission rates.
- January 14-March 14 Gail Borden Library Take Flight Exhibit, Elgin, free, hands-on explorations to learn about flight, check for special programs
- January 19-February 24 Enchanted Railroad, Morton Arboretum, free with regular admission, get timed tickets when you arrive at the Visitor Center

Road Trips:
- Winterfest in Lake Geneva January 26-February 3. The event's focus is the US Snow Sculpting Championship (January 30-February 2). Other events include the Human Dog Sled Race, Cocoa Crawl, Amazing Ice Castles, chili cook off and more. See schedule for details.
