Hooray! We have a short week! Here are few ideas to keep you and the kiddos busy this weekend. My picks:

Friday, January 4:
- January 4-5 Wizards at Mayslake, Oak Brook, 6PM -9PM Friday, 3PM-6PM Saturday, magical courses, learn about owls and other creations, adaptations and defense mechanisms, $15 pp ages 8 and up, must register
- January 4 & 5 Eagle Watching, Four Rivers Educational Center, Channahon, 9AM-3PM, all ages, take a walk along the Des Plaines River to watch for eagles, warm up with a complimentary drink, see exhibits and more, free
Saturday, January 5:
- January 5 Health Fair and Fitness Open House, Prairie Lakes, Des Plaines, 9AM-1PM, free fitness classes, trainers available and more, bouncy house, games, kids zumba and more, free
- January 5 Fitness Expo, Camelot, Arlington Heights, 9AM-11AM, fun for the whole family, free, demos, classes, story time, doterra and more
- January 5-6 Train Show, Schaumburg Convention Center, 10AM-5PM, $14.95 Saturday, $12.95 Sunday, $16.95 both days, mode train layouts, kids 15 and under are free
- January 5-6 Gnome Globes and Gnome Hunt, Morton Arboretum, 11AM-2PM, Children's Garden, hunt for gnomes in the Children's Garden (hunt is free with admission), then create a globe to bring home, globes are $7 pp for members, $10 for non, must purchase ticket in visitor's center, limited number, admission is separate, weather permitting
- January 5 & 6 Ice Sculpting at Chicago Botanic Garden, 11AM and 2PM in the Runnells Courtyard, parking $25 per car. You can also check out the Wonderland Express but check ticket prices for that.
- January 5 Foglia YMCA's Winter Carnival, Lake Zurich, 12PM-2PM, carnival games, crafts, scavenger hunt, refreshments and more, free to the public
- January 5 Farmhouse Museum Tours: Christmas Memories, Kline Creek Farm, West Chicago, 10AM-3PM, tours on the hour, blacksmithing demo at 1:30, free
- January 5 Farm life in winter, Kline Creek Farm, West Chicago, 1:30PM-3:30PM, learn about farm chores in the winter, free
Sunday, January 6:

- January 6 Winter Survival, Crabtree Nature Center, Barrington, 1PM, learn what animals do to survive winter
- January 6 Hands on History: Curious Clothes, Des Plaines History Center, 1PM-3PM, look at the history of fabrics and clothing including how clothes were made from natural fibers, try on some old fashioned garments and more, for families with kids ages 5-12, free due to generosity of VFW 2992.
