The weekend is almost here! This weekend is another long one for the kiddos as we celebrate President's Day. Here are my picks for family fun in the Chicago suburbs this weekend:
Ongoing:
- Now Through February 17: Sinnissippi Station Model Railroad Exhibit, Nicholas Conservatory, Rockford, enjoy fun model trains in the lush tropical setting. See if you can spot Rockford landmarks in miniature. Check website for admission rates.
- January 14-March 14 Gail Borden Library Take Flight Exhibit, Elgin, free, hands-on explorations to learn about flight, check for special programs
- January 19-February 24 Enchanted Railroad, Morton Arboretum, free with regular admission, get timed tickets when you arrive at the Visitor Center
- January 26-April 7 Chagall for Children, Arlington Heights Memorial Library, 14 interactive exhibits encouraging you to insert yourself into Chagall's work, there are special sensory-friendly hours, the exhibit is free and great for kids ages 2-12, take a peek: https://www.alittletimeandakeyboard.com/2019/01/chagall-for-children.html

- February 16 Farmhouse Museum Tours, Kline Creek Farm, West Chicago, 10AM-3PM, tours on the hour, blacksmithing demo at 1:30, free
- February 16 Child/Parent Build a Bird House, Wildbird Shack, Mount Prospect, 10:30AM-12PM, $45 per pair, includes supplies and treats, must register
- February 16 Pop Out Art, Chagall's Peace Windows, Arlington Heights Memorial Library, 11AM-1PM, assemble colorful, dream-like images and shapes symbolizing peace, love, tolerance and faith as part of your own stained glass style art and hang them in your favorite window, supplies provided, free, best for ages 5+
- February 16 African Music and Dance with Idy Ciss, Mount Prospect Public Library, 11AM-11:45AM, free but must register, experience the spirit of Africa through movement and music
- February 16-17 Gnome Globes and Gnome Hunt, Morton Arboretum, 11AM-2PM, Children's Garden, hunt for gnomes in the Children's Garden (hunt is free with admission), then create a globe to bring home, globes are $7 pp for members, $10 for non, must purchase ticket in visitor's center, limited number, admission is separate, weather permitting
- February 16 Chili Cook Off, Buffalo Grove, 12PM-2PM, $5 pp, space limited

- February 17 In Search of the Snow Flea, River Trail Nature Center, Northbrook, 1:30PM, check for snow fleas on the trails and learn what insects do in the winter

- February 18 Cantigny Park Museums Open for President's Day, $5 parking, free admission

- February 18 Family Archery, Herrick Lake, Wheaton, 12PM-1:30PM, $10 pp ages 8+; under 18 with an adult, must register
- February 18 President's Day Program, Des Plaines History Center, 1PM-3PM, learn about Washington and Lincoln, presidential trivia and crafts, great for kids 5-12 and families
Another suggestion -- tour the Frank Lloyd Wright Home and Studio in Oak Park; tours are daily 10AM-3PM, purchase tickets online.
