Affordable Spring Break 2019 Fun in the Chicago Suburbs
Looking for some affordable options for local Spring Break fun? I have rounded up a list of my favorites including some unique events. I will be adding to this list, so keep it bookmarked.
All of Spring Break: Willowbrook Nature Center in Glen Ellyn, 9AM-5PM, see where local wildlife is taken to be rehabilitated, plenty of resident animals to visit with, free but donation is appreciated
All of Spring Break: Cosley Zoo in Wheaton, 10AM-4PM, home to domestic farm animals and native wildlife, Wheaton residents are free, all kids are free, adults ages 18-54 $7, seniors 55+ $6
All of Spring Break: Cantigny Park in Wheaton, Cantigny Park has a wealth of gardens to visit as well as the First Division Museum detailing the history of the First Division in the Army from WWI to now and the McCormick House Museum. Additionally, the tank garden displaying historic tanks is a favorite. The museums are open Tuesdays-Sundays 10AM-4PM. Admission is free and parking is $5 per car.
All of Spring Break: Chagall for Children at the Arlington Heights Memorial Library. The interactive exhibit features fourteen stations exploring Chagall's art with all of the senses.
All of Spring Break: Peck Farm in Geneva; Check out Hawk's Hollow nature exploration area, the observation silo, hiking trails and more.
All of Spring Break: Volkening Heritage Farm in Schaumburg, while the farm buildings do not open until April, you can still walk the grounds, enjoy bison's bluff nature play area and the visitor center.
All of Spring Break: The Grove in Glenview, enjoy the nature center with live animals including turtles, plenty of hiking available.
March 23 - June 2 Simply Spring: The Butterfly Exhibit at Nicholas Conservatory, Rockford, go early as space is limited, adults $6 (Resident), $8 (Non-Resident), senior $4 (Resident), $6 (Non-Resident), Veterans $4 (Resident), $6 (Non-Resident), ages 5-17 $4 (Resident), $6 (Non-Resident). ages 3-4 $2 (Resident), $3 (Non-Resident), ages 2 and under free ($4 admission on Tropical Tuesdays), enjoy butterflies flying around in a tropical setting without leaving the Midwest!
March 25 Spring Break Maple Sugaring Hikes, 11AM-12PM, Ryerson, River Woods, $6 pp, must register
March 25, 28 and 29 Farmhouse Museum Tours, Kline Creek Farm, West Chicago 10AM-4PM plus Maple Sugaring 1PM-4PM, free
March 25-26 The Magic Circus, Cutting Hall, Palatine, 10:30AM-11:30AM, when evil villains threaten to shut down the show, performers may need more than magic, guests are encouraged to wear costumes, $5-$6, tickets online
March 25-29 Drop In Crafts, Raupp Museum, Buffalo Grove, 1:30PM-3PM, free, nice museum full of local history, different crafts each day
March 25 Fable Factory, Gail Borden Public Library, Elgin, performances at 2PM or 5PM, free but must register, free
March 26 & 29 Wildlife Discovery Center, Lake Forest, 10AM-4PM, indoor and outdoor exhibits including live animal exhibits, hiking, nearby park, free
March 26 Museum Curiosity Stations, Dunn Museum, Libertyville, 10AM-12PM, $6 adults, $3 kids and seniors, ages 3 and under free
March 26 Spring Breakout Adventures, Knoch Knolls, Elgin, 10AM-1PM, nature activities, free

March 27 Tinkering Through Time: Mastodon Mysteries, Dunn Museum, Libertyville, 10AM-11AM, kids ages 6-10 with caregiver, STEAM activities, explore fossil casts, experiments, $3 per child, $6 per adult, must register
March 27 Discount Wednesday at Morton Arboretum, enjoy discounted admission ($10 per adult; kids $7), enjoy the Troll Hunt, Gnome Hunt and more
March 27-30 Open Season Preview, Naper Settlement, 1PM-4PM, preview of 13 historic buildings with interpreters, $12/Adult, $10/Senior, $8/Youth, 4-12 years old. Members free. Naperville residents free.
March 27 Spring Break History Hunt, Fisher Farm and Churchville Schoolhouse, Bensenville, 11AM-3PM, free scavenger hunt and history activities
March 28 Museum Family Crafts, Dunn Museum, Libertyville, 10AM-12PM, themed crafts based on the exhibition Marvelocity: The Art of Alex Ross, free with admission, $6 adults, $3 kids and seniors, ages 3 and under free
March 29 Lizzadro Museum of Lapidary Art Free Day, Elmhurst, 10AM-5PM, learn about rocks, minerals, earth processes, the world of lapidary art and more
