Literary Wonderland at Midtown Scholar in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania
Our Pennsylvania road trip took us right through Harrisburg where we made a stop at the Midtown Scholar Bookstore.
Midtown Scholar Bookstore resides in a former 1920's cinema which became a department store in the 1950's. Talk about history! Plus, they have a cafe. So, how could we not stop?
Midtown Scholar is home to new, rare and used books as well as lithographic and woodcut prints.

Books as far as the eye can see at Midtown Scholar! |
The bookstore sprawls several floors and even has a discount section out front. Books are separated into easy to identify sections. With the theater design, the upstairs levels are split and you can take a peek below and see a fairly airy seating section where you can sit with a book and/or a fresh baked snack, loose leaf tea or coffee drink from the coffee bar.

From above, you have a nice view of the airy seating area with books, of course! I love the bell as well! |
Midtown Scholar really is a place to wander for awhile. You may be tempted to skip the basement, but I recommend making sure to explore the collection of lithograph and woodcut prints there. On the first floor, there also is a separate children's area as well. There is plenty of seating throughout. So, you may just find a fellow book lover or two seated as you turn corners!
Across from Midtown Scholar is
Broad Street Market which was founded in 1860 and one of the oldest continuously running farmers' markets in the country. Broad Street Market is full of international flavors, so fine adventure for a meal!

Broad Street Market is one of the continuously running markets in America. |
As you can see, we had the perfect pit stop adventure on our trip out to West Chester, Pennsylvania and Annapolis, Maryland. Midtown Scholar Bookstore is the perfect spot to get lost for a little while!
