Memorial Day, Beer Garden, County Pop Con, Chalk Fest, Butterflies and More Family Fun in the Chicago Suburbs May 24-28, 2019
We have a fabulous long weekend ahead! This weekend we celebrate Memorial Day and honor those that gave the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom. There are many events throughout the suburbs to honor the fallen. In addition, there are many nature events, a beer garden and even a pop con! Take a peek at my picks:
Ongoing:
- March 23 - June 2 Simply Spring: The Butterfly Exhibit at Nicholas Conservatory, Rockford, go early as space is limited, adults $6 (Resident), $8 (Non-Resident), senior $4 (Resident), $6 (Non-Resident), Veterans $4 (Resident), $6 (Non-Resident), ages 5-17 $4 (Resident), $6 (Non-Resident). ages 3-4 $2 (Resident), $3 (Non-Resident), ages 2 and under free ($4 admission on Tropical Tuesdays), enjoy butterflies flying around in a tropical setting without leaving the Midwest!
- May 18-September 21 Butterfly House, Peck Farm, Geneva, Mon-Sat 9AM-5PM, Sun 12PM-5PM, closed Memorial Day, 4th of July and Labor Day, $2 pp donation, $5 per family
- May 24-September 15 Nature Connects Lego Sculptures by Sean Kenney at The Morton Arboretum, comes with regular admission, see previous post for more details
- May 25-September 2 Butterflies and Blooms, Chicago Botanic Garden, 10AM-5PM daily, see website for fees, weather dependent
***Blackberry Farm is open for the season so may make for a nice outing soon! Train depot, wagon rides, pony rides, 1800's buildings including blacksmith and much more will fill the day with the littles! One of our favorites when our daughter was little.***

- May 25-26 Prairie Festival of the Arts, Schaumburg
- May 25-26 Barrington Art Festival, 10AM-5PM
- May 25-26 Chicagoland Gem and Minerals Show, Kane County Fairgrounds, 10AM-6PM Sat, 10AM-5PM Sun, $5 per adult, $3 seniors and students, under 13 free
- May 25-27 Pre-season Opening Pirate's Cove, Elk Grove Village, check website for hours each day, amusement park for those 9 and under, admission $12 per child ($9 for village residents), adults are free
- May 25 County Pop Con Pre Party, Dunn Museum, Libertyville, 12PM-3PM, show off your cosplay, play super hero activities, see exhibit The Art of Alex Ross, free with admission, $6 adults, $3 seniors and youth, ages 3 and under free
- May 25-26 Spring Planting, Kline Creek Farm, 1:30PM-3:30PM, see the fields and kitchen garden prepped for spring, free
- May 25 Grayslake Late Night Flea Market and County Pop Culture Con, Lake County Fairgrounds, $7 pp, kids ages 12 and under free

- May 26 Guided Spring Nature Hike, Trailside, River Forest, free
- May 26 Pollinators, Crabtree Nature Center, Barrington, 1PM, discover why pollinators are so important to our ecosystem and then hike to find our pollinators
- May 26 & 27 Creature Feature, River Trail Nature Center, Northbrook, 1:30PM, meet one of River Trail's resident creatures
Monday, May 27:
- May 27 Memorial Day at Cantigny, Wheaton, 11AM-5PM, Memorial Ceremony, performances, Chinook helicopter, encampment, $10 parking
- May 27 Memorial Day with 1890's Traditions, Kline Creek Farm, West Chicago, 1:30PM-3:30PM, make tissue paper flowers, poems, music and more remembrances, free
