Housed in a milking house constructed in 1822, Baldwin's Book Barn charms immediately when you pull up. Stone, baskets and a wood frame are charming elements. |
Inside, we quickly discovered that the five floors of books on shelves and tucked inside cozy nooks would have us adventuring for quite some time admiring details of the building and perusing titles. William and and Lilla Baldwin started their used book store in 1934 in Wilmington, Delaware. In 1946, they moved their bookstore to "The Barn" and since then
Baldwin's Book Barn has been a haven for book and history lovers.

I love the crates used to shelve books! |
Bookshelves are a mix of traditional bookshelves, tables and even crates.

Lovely window seat! |
Alcoves exist throughout where you can sit and relax with a book. We visited on a Sunday and could easily tell that Baldwin's is a favorite for slowing down and being in the moment. Plenty of visitors were perusing and sitting with books. We savored our visit and look forward to returning to uncover new -- well old -- gems and artifacts.
