Smiling with Pinkie the Elephant in DeForest, Wisconsin
Pinkie the Elephant in DeForest, Wisconsin provides for a festive little pit stop and photo op. Pinkie can be located just outside of a Shell station just off of I-94 north of Madison. We fit it in on our trip to Duluth this spring. I mean, how could you not stop:

The gas station has been Pinkie's home since the 1960's when he was brought in order to attract business. The Pink Elephant was originally produced by Sculptured Advertising in Sparta, WI. The first was placed outside of Pink Elephant Supper Club in Iowa. Other pink elephants were made for Arco Gas Stations. Pinkie is the last in the DeForest, WI area but others may be found in Illinois, Indiana, Missouri and Tennessee. The original pink elephant in Iowa did not have the glasses but I am not sure about the others. Of course, everyone needs to get out and take a selfie with Pinkie!
