Galien River County Park in New Buffalo, Michigan Treats Hikers to a Tree Canopy and Boardwalk Walk with Fantastic Views
A family day in New Buffalo, Michigan has long been one of our favorite summer traditions. We love to start our day at the beach and wander through town stopping for ice cream. Then, we would wind up Red Arrow Highway making a variety of stops. On this visit, we explored a new to us spot and were immediately entranced while adventuring at Galien River County Park.

There are a couple of trails to choose from at Galien River County Park and I recommend you check them all out to enjoy the range of views. Venturing up to the Tree Canopy treated us with pretty expansive views. Trails are easily navigable, so exploring high up in the trees is pretty simple for any hiker.

Another trail in Galien River County Park consists of a boardwalk where you walk through marsh out to the river.

The head of the trail rests in a wooded area. We walked down a slope like trail to the boardwalk area to head through the marsh.

The forest is a mature forest full of maple and beech. You can see here we really are among the trees up on the canopy walk:

Galien River County Park is a splendid nature adventure and worth spending a little time away from the beach if you are in New Buffalo, Michigan!
To Know About Galien River County Park:
- Easy trails make the park pretty accessible.
- Earlier in the morning as well as early evening are better wildlife viewing times.
- Bring binoculars.
- A fishing platform is available.
