The Norwegian in Rockford, Illinois was certainly hopping on our recent visit this summer and we would soon see why. If you have been following this blog for awhile, you do know that we have an affinity for all things Nordic. So, when a reader informed me about The Norwegian I knew we would have to visit. The menu at The Norwegian features Nordic favorites such as smørrebrød, frikadeller, pickled herring and more as well as brunch and lunch favorites. Plus, The Norwegian sources locally. Such a great place to explore food:

The Norwegian does prepare a variety of boards. However, I immediately eyed the potato board. What isn't to love about potatoes three ways? Our board delighted us with a potato croquette, fresh chips and a take on scalloped potatoes. We enjoyed each but the croquette was easily our favorite!
Yum! Yum! Potatoes Three Way! |
For our main entrees, we each opted for sandwiches -- well, I had a wrap. I went with the Salmon Salad Wrap which was incredible. It was HUGE and I almost ate the whole the thing, it was that delicious. I did not realize upon ordering that it came with fries. However, it did and they were heavenly.

We really loved our meal at The Norwegian. We could immediately tell that heart and soul that went into our meals. Everything was so well prepared. Plus, we love The Norwegian's commitment to community including sourcing from locally made products. We would love to return to check out one of The Norwegian's live music events as well and explore more food! The Norwegian is such a happy discovery, we can't wait to return!
