Surrounded by Nature at Heron Creek Forest Preserve in Lake Zurich, Illinois
**Always check trail conditions before heading out in case there are closings.
As nature awakens this spring, we have been enjoying wandering the trails of local preserves including Heron Creek Forest Preserve to observe changes throughout the season. Heron Creek Forest Preserve is a new forest preserve to us this year and we have been quite enjoying discovering subtle changes as spring brings more wildlife, leaves and blooms!
Immediately upon our arrival this weekend, we discovered a tree in full bloom. As you can see, the sun was in full glory! While many fellow walkers joined us on a fantastic day, we felt entranced by nature on most of the trail.
Heron Creek Forest Preserve has about 2.5 miles of gravel trails and a creek system. You will cross the creek a couple of times. Since these crossings are picturesque, the bridges can be congested. You will encounter creek and wetlands several times giving you wonderful views.

The preserve is beautiful and has a nice length of trail. Easily navigable, the trail appeals to all nature lovers. I look forward to seeing how this preserve become more and more vibrant over the season.
For the kids, there is a large playground area currently closed due to COVID. However, this will be quite a treasure for parents once restrictions are lifted. Overall, we relished the natural surroundings of Heron Creek Forest Preserve and look forward to future walks!
