The weekend is just about here! I have heard that it will be cooler this weekend -- let's hope for much needed relief! Here are my picks for weekend fun in the Chicago suburbs this weekend:

Ongoing through September 20 Butterflies and Blooms, Chicago Botanic Garden, 10AM-5PM, reserve timed entry with Chicago Botanic Garden, tickets for event will be at a ticket booth in the garden, Adults: $8, Seniors: $7, Children (3–12 yrs): $6 Children (2 and under): Free, Members receive $1 off each price Garden Plus members are free on Wednesdays, parking is $30 per car (free for members); social distancing measures are being practiced, masks are required in the Butterfly Enclosure

Ongoing through August 31: Ongoing through August 31: Wilmette History Mystery Tour: https://www.wilmettehistory.org/ Download clues or visit the museum for a booklet and solve a mystery! The museum is open Sunday-Thursday 1PM-4:30PM; those under 13 that solve the mystery qualify for a free Lou Malnati's personal pizza.

August 1 through September 1:Elmhurst Clue Game, download game and travel around Elmhurst looking for clues, use your deductive reasoning to determine the suspect, object and location, free, those with correct answers will win a museum swag bag!

Ongoing - third Saturday in September, Butterfly House, Peck Farm, Geneva, must wear a mask, social distancing protocols in use and must be honored, $2 per person, $5 per person, Monday - Saturday 10AM-4PM; Sunday 12PM-4PM

Ongoing through October 11 Model Railroad: Landmarks of America at Chicago Botanic Garden, 10AM-5PM daily, enjoy trains as they travel through vignettes of iconic spots in America, the display incorporates a fantastic number of plants within the scenes, please reserve timed entry for the gardens, parking $30 per car on weekends (free for members), there are separate admission fees for the railroad garden.

August 29 Nature Walks at Fullersburg Woods; 45 minute walks starting on the hour at 9AM, 10AM, 11AM, 12PM, 1PM and 2PM, $2 per person, must wear a mask and maintain 6 foot distances from others, those under 18 must be accompanied by and adult, registration not required

August 29-30 Port Clinton Art Walk, Highland Park, 10AM-6PM, must pre-reserve timed entry, please check, please check the website for more COVID protections

August 29 Alley Art Festival, Aurora, 12PM-5PM, downtown, free, must socially distance and wear masks inside or in booths

August 29 Dunn Museum Reopening, Libertyville, 10AM-3:30PM, must reserve timed entry, nonresident $10, $6 seniors, $6 kids, resident $6, $3 and $3 respectively, under 4 free, learn about the history and culture of Lake County

August 29 Reading Rocks, Lizzadro Museum of Lapidary Art, Elmhurst, 11AM or 2PM, for ages 6 and up, learn about the characteristics of rocks, held outside in rock garden, includes museum scavenger hunt, must wear mask and social distance, must register, $10 per adult, $8 seniors, $5 children

August 29 Cantigny Scavenger Hunt, Cantigny Park, Wheaton, 12PM-8PM, scan QR code for clues at Visitor Center or First Division Museum parking lot, prizes awarded 12PM-3PM, $5 parking per car

August 30 Sunflower Stroll, Crabtree Nature Center, Barrington, 1PM, must register, call 847-381-6592, participants must social distance and wear a mask, free

August 30 Lake Forest Civic Orchestra at "Gortinia," Gorton Center, Lake Forest, 6:30PM-8PM, tickets $20 per person, $10 for seniors, college students with IDs and kids, kids under 12 free, there will be socially distant seating pods, bring lawn seats and blankets, there will be concessions for $, must purchase tickets ahead due to limited seating
