34 Family Fun Events in the Chicago Suburbs October 29 -November 1, 2020

Time to think about the weekend! There are plenty of spooky and sweet family fun events in the Chicago suburbs this weekend. Additionally, there is plenty of nature fun to be had! Happy Halloween and don't forget to turn your clocks back Sunday! Here are my picks for this weekend:

Ongoing:

Ongoing Richardson Corn Maze -- Did you know that the Chicago area is home to the World's Largest Corn Maze? We certainly are! One of our favorite corn mazes is Richardson's Corn Maze which is the World's Largest and features a new theme each year. This year's maze celebrates Earth Day's 50th Anniversary.  This year's maze is open September 12-November 8. Don't forget the apple cider donuts! 

Ongoing Shades of Autumn Festival --  This year, Stade's Shades of Autumn Festival will look a little different. While the play area will not be open, families will still be able to pick apples and pumpkins! Please check website for information and u-pick dates.

Ongoing Pumpkin Daze -- Abbey Farms in Aurora hosts family fun on the farm during Pumpkin Daze each year. Abbey Farms delights with a corn maze, pumpkin picking, a rope maze and much more. Take a peek at the live music on the farm options as well! Please check website for more information on COVID protocols. Pumpkin Daze runs through November 1. Don't forget to snag some apple cider donuts!

Ongoing through November 1 Scarecrow Trail -- Stroll around Meadow Lake at Morton Arboretum enjoying scarecrow creations crafted by local organizations. We have been pretty impressed by the creativity of each year's contributions. The trail is included in admission BUT you must reserve timed entry, so head over to the website to reserve your time. 

Ongoing through October 31 Terror in the Timbers Halloween Drive Through in Elgin, Fridays and Saturdays; Thursdays the last two weekends in October, this is a scary drive so more for families with teens; $65 per car; to provide a true family event there will be Family Fun Trick-or-Treats Oct 23, 25, 30 and 31 for $20 per car, must reserve tickets 

Ongoing October 10-31 Skeleton Scavenger Hunt, LaGrange, fun and free skeleton hunt

Ongoing through October 31 Windows Into Art: Love Where You Live art display throughout downtown Wheaton, local artists have painted incredible scenes on the windows of local businesses, check out the map and go on an art hunt

Ongoing Dunn Museum Timed EntryLibertyville, 10AM-3:30PM, must reserve timed entry, nonresident $10, $6 seniors, $6 kids, resident $6, $3 and $3 respectively, under 4 free, learn about the history and culture of Lake County, museum open Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays only

Ongoing through October 31 Naperville Settlement timed entry, Naperville, $5 per person, residents free, register online, must follow social distancing guidelines and wear a mask, open Tuesdays-Sundays

October 15 - November 15 Sugar Skull City, Aurora, self guided walking tour of Sugar Skull designs on storefronts downtown, special first Friday event November 6, special menu items, Sugar Skull scavenger hunt, special locally crafted items and more, see website

October 15-31 Carol Stream's 2020 Halloween Decorating Contest, click link to get map

October 16-November 1 Open House Chicago, reimagined architectural celebration including OHC trails, virtual experiences and more, there is an app to download to begin to explore Chicago's architectural treasures on this special weekend, 20+ neighborhoods

October 16-October 31St. Charles Halloween Tour, pack up the car and tour spooky Halloween decor, see more online

October 17-31 Halloween Walk with a Twist, Cary and Fox River Grove, Free, trick-or-treat participating businesses with a passport

October 23 - December 20 Frank Lloyd Wright: Architecture of the Interior, Elmhurst History Museum, must reserve time slot to see exhibit, free

Through February 14 Wright Before the "Lloyd", Elmhurst Art Museum, journey through Wright's youthful architectural explorations, also enjoy a self guided walking tour, free with admission, must reserve a time

Through October 31 Skeletons decorate Highwood, see the creativity local businesses and organizations have come up with

Through October 31 Scarecrow Rows Glen Ellyn, 100+ scarecrows throughout Glen Ellyn, free

October 22-November 1 Little Park of Horrors, Wing Park, Elgin, 6PM-9PM, drive through spooky Halloween event, $5 donation per car, the weekends will feature actors and atmospherics

Thursday, October 29:

October 29 & 30 The Great Pumpkin Hunt by DelBoccio/Marchetti in Arlington Heights, follow clues to find pumpkins and win a prize (a candy filled pinata), free

October 29 - 31 Schaumburg Halloween House Decorating Contest, voting ends 10/29

Friday, October 30:

October 30-November 2  Pop-Up Haunted Park, Hibbard Park, Wilmette, 6AM-9PM, enjoy a park decorated with spine-tingling decor, free and at your leisure, please maintain social distance and wear a mask if crowded

October 30 Spooky Tales and Haunted Trails, The Grove, Glenview, various times 5PM-6:30PM, costumes encouraged, spooky stories around the campfire, dress for the weather, pack a bottle of water, $8 per resident, $10 per non, must register

October 30 Hocus Pocus Drive In Movie, The Loft 21, Lincolnshire, $30 per car, must purchase tickets ahead of time

Saturday, October 31:

October 31 Spooktacular Halloween Yoga, Hop Along Yogi, Klehm Park, 9:30AM-10AM, Halloween themed yoga for families with younger kids, costumes encouraged! Must register online, $8 pp

October 31 & November 1 Kennicott House Tours, The Grove, Glenview, 11AM, 12PM, 1PM, 2PM, must register, limit 8 people per time, must wear masks and social distance, free, call to register

October 31 Outdoor Spooktacular Story Time, Evergreens Trails Park, Mount Prospect, via Mount Prospect Public Library, wear your costumes and a mask, enjoy Halloween stories and a craft, free but must register

October 31 - November 1  Corn Harvest, Kline Creek Farm, West Chicago, learn about the corn harvest and experience picking corn by hand alongside horse drawn equipment, learn how to properly shuck, $5 pp,  must register, various times, must wear a mask

October 31 Fall Hike, Sagawau, Lemont, 1PM, free, must register ahead, must wear masks and social distance

October 31 Unhuggable Animals Scavenger Hunt, Isle A La Cache, Romeoville, 1PM-3PM, costumes encouraged, for kids 12 and under, drop in nature scavenger hunt, must wear masks and social distance, free

Sunday, November 1:

November 1 Trivia Trails, Old School Forest Preserve, Mettawa, 1.3 mile trail with trivia questions along it about a range of topics including history and nature, free

November 1 What's on the Menu?, River Trail Nature Center, Northbrook, 3pm, learn about resident animals during feeding time, free, must wear a mask and social distance

November 1 GO Lake Forest Family Glow Walk, South Park, Lake Forest, 5PM-6PM, walk the illuminated trail, glow sticks, etc will be handed out
