The weekend is nearly here! There is a nice mix of outdoor and Zoom experiences this weekend -- plus holiday lights! Additionally, there is an opportunity to work with glass. Take a peek at my picks:

Ongoing through January 3 Lightscape at Chicago Botanic Garden; this year's walk through light show event will feature displays designed by Chicago area artists! Enjoy old favorites and new delights! Procedures are in place to keep us safe while enjoying the fantastic displays. See website for ticket info and pricing. This will fill up, so reserve soon! Please note, there are few tickets left.

November 15-January 9 Let It Shine Drive Thru Light Show at Northbrook Court, closed Thanksgiving and Christmas; light installations synchronized to music, $29.99-$39.99; fast pass can be added on for $15; see website for more more information and tickets.

October 15 - November 15 Sugar Skull City, Aurora, self guided walking tour of Sugar Skull designs on storefronts downtown, special first Friday event November 6, special menu items, Sugar Skull scavenger hunt, special locally crafted items and more, see website


October 23 - December 20 Frank Lloyd Wright: Architecture of the Interior, Elmhurst History Museum, must reserve time slot to see exhibit, free

Through February 14 Wright Before the "Lloyd", Elmhurst Art Museum, journey through Wright's youthful architectural explorations, also enjoy a self guided walking tour, free with admission, must reserve a time

November 14 Fossils in Our Preserves, 10AM-10:30AM via Zoom, learn about the fossils that may be found in our preserves from Forest Preserve District of Will County, must register

November 14 -15 Patterson Glassworks Open House: Make a Pumpkin, Mundelein, $35 for a small one; $65 large, you can make an appointment, walk-ins permitted but appointments prioritized,

November 14-15 Corn Harvest, Kline Creek Farm, West Chicago, learn about the corn harvest and experience picking corn by hand alongside horse drawn equipment, learn how to properly shuck, $5 pp,  must register, various times, must wear a mask

November 14-15 Kennicott House Tours, The Grove, Glenview, 11AM, 12PM, 1PM, 2PM, must register, limit 8 people per time, must wear masks and social distance, free, call to register

November 14 Design and Discover Beavers, 1PM-2PM, via Zoom, ages 9 and up, you will learn about beavers plus work on a project, a list of items needed will be given before, must register via Forest Preserve District of Will County

November 15 Queen Quest, Sagawau Environmental Learning Center, Lemont, 1PM, where do bumble bee queens go over winter? for ages 8 and up, must register, must wear masks and distance

November 15 Seek and Find Wildlife, Heller Nature Center, Highland Park, 1:30PM-3PM, learn how to use a new tool to identify animals, take a walk to identify some, $8 pp, must register
