Why You Should Plant Native Plants in Your Yard:
Native plants provide essential nectar and seeds for native wildlife. Having access to native plants is quite crucial to our native wildlife including birds, butterflies, bees and more. Monarchs in particular only lay their eggs on milkweed and the caterpillars in turn eat that milkweed. Creating habitats for our native wildlife to obtain the resources they need in order to support their populations is essential.
Additionally, our native plants are suited to our environment here in northern Illinois, so they do not require too much maintenance. I started sculpting my yard with native plants nearly 15 years ago and I can tell you that I have flowers all season long with little maintenance. Plus, I see an incredible array of birds, bees and butterflies visiting my yard daily! As my native gardens become more established, I see a larger and larger variety of wildlife visiting.
Lastly, your purchases help support local organizations that help bolster our native wildlife as well as spread awareness.
