Chicago Suburbs Family Fun June 10-13, 2021

I know that a lot of you are probably itching to get out there and enjoy summer fun! There are plenty of great ideas for this weekend! With this transition period due to COVID protocols, please check the venue's website before venturing out to make sure you follow their protocols. Here are my picks for this weekend:

Ongoing:

Ongoing Naper Settlement is back open to the public Tuesdays - Saturdays 10AM-4PM,, Sundays 1PM-4PM, adults $10 pp, seniors 62+  $8, kids ages 4-12 $7, Naperville residents (with proof of residency), children under 4 and Naper Settlement Members are free, must register ahead. Also, visit the new Answering the Call: Naperville at  War exhibit focusing on WWII.

May 8 - October 10 Model Railroad Garden open at Chicago Botanic Garden, Adults: $8, Seniors: $7, Children (3 – 12): $6 Children (2 and under): Free Members receive $1 off each price Garden Plus members get in free on Wednesdays, tickets are at ticket booth in front of exhibit and have timed entry, must also reserve time to visit gardens and purchase parking online, parking: $25 per weekday, $30 on weekends

May 22 - September 18 Butterfly House at Peck Farm in Geneva is open Monday - Saturday 9AM-5PM, Sunday 12PM-5PM, suggested donation $2 pp or $6 per family, masks and social distancing required.

May 14 - August 29 To the Moon Snoopy Soars with NASA, Elmhurst History Museum, learn how Snoopy was part of NASA's Manned Flight Awareness safety program, learn about the Apollo program and more, free

May 31 - September 6 Butterflies and Blooms, Chicago Botanic Gardens, 10AM-5PM, $25 parking during the week, $30 on weekends, tickets adults $8, seniors $7, children (3-12) $6, children 2 and under free, members $1 off, garden plus members free on Wednesdays, 10 visit pas $50 per members, $60 non members, must reserve timed-entry to garden, tickets for exhibit are at booth

Ongoing Human + Nature at Morton Arboretum, Lisle, stunning natural sculptures to help connect people with trees, the exhibition includes 5 incredible sculptures, included with normal admission

Ongoing through Labor Day Local Art Pop Up at Izaak Walton Park in Prospect Heights

Thursday, June 10

June 10-13 Celebrate Highwood's Kick Off To Summer 'Grads and Grease' Carnival, kicking off summer in Highwood with a summer carnival, see website for details on rides and hours, Buffo's will have their Sheridan Road Cruz'n Night car show June 12 on Sheridan from 5PM-sundown

Saturday, June 12

June 12-13 Make Glass Planets for Father's Day, Patterson Glass, Mundelein, $65, please call to make an appointment, hours for this event are 10AM-4PM

June 12-13  Wheaton Art Walk, 10AM-5PM, juried artists representing a wide variety of mediums, demos, talk to artists and more, free, reservations not required but encouraged

June 12 Antioch Sawmill Tours, 10AM-1PM, Antioch, free

June 12 Yoga in the Park with Hop Along Kids Yoga, Klehm Park, Arlington Heights, 10AM, geared towards families with kids ages 2-6 but all are welcome, register online, $9

June 12 Schaumburg Environmental Fair Pollinator Picnic, Spring Valley Nature Center, Schaumburg, 12PM-3:30PM, learn about pollinators, their life cycles and how to attract them, learn about the new pollinator display garden, free, there are free workshops to register for as well

June 12 The Progressive Farm: A Barnyard Tour, Kline Creek Farm, West Chicago, 1:30PM, 2:30PM, 3:30PM, learn about farming towards the end of the 19th century, costumed interpreter, free but tours are limited to 10 people, those under 18 must be accompanied by an adult, masks and social distancing required

June 13 Revive Handmade Outdoor Markets, Baird & Warner Northwest Suburban in Arlington Heights, 10AM-3PM, shop from 20 local artisans, kids activities from Hello Art Studio, music from Bach to Rock

June 13 Aurora Pride Drive, 11AM-2PM, celebrate Pride enjoying decorations, activities, entertainment and more

June 13 Woodstock PrideFest Parade, 11AM-12PM, see website for info on more PrideFest activities

June 13 Cantigny Family Concert: Jeanie B., Cantigny Park, Wheaton, 11AM, $10 parking per car

June 13 Habitat Hike, Crabtree Nature Center, Barrington Hills, 1PM, 1.5 mile hike, hike through 3 habitats to learn about the flora and fauna, must register, masks and physical distancing required

June 13 Farmhouse Museum Tours, Kline Creek Farm, West Chicago, 10AM-4PM, learn what it was like to live on the farm and how farms served as building blocks of the rural community, free

June 13  Hometown Picnic, Naper Settlement, Naperville, 1PM-4PM, included in admission, bring your lawn chairs, blanket and picnic lunch to enjoy old fashioned fun, vintage baseball game, hula hoop contests, tours of Pine Craig Mansion, living history demos and more, purchase tickets online

June 13 Deerfield Historic Village Open, Deerfield, 2PM-4PM, tour historic buildings, interpreters available, free

June 13 Cantigny Concert: VOYAGE,  Cantigny Park, Wheaton, 3PM, bandshell, $10 parking per car
