Warnimont Park Provides for an Intriguing and Beautiful Wisconsin Hiking Location Near Milwaukee
Warnimont Park bestows hikers with a beautiful and intriguing hiking location in Cudahy, Wisconsin, south of Milwaukee. The preserve maintains a section of the extensive and paved Oak Leaf Trail. However, for us, the natural Forked Aster Trail is the star of the preserve. This impressive trail spindles off of the Oak Leaf Trail and offers a wander through stunning nature.
Ravines add an extra level of interest hiking at Warnimont Park. |
Enjoying a Morning Wrapped in Nature
Upon leaving the Oak Leaf Trail onto the natural trails, we quickly became enrobed by the forest. Soon, we would be able to peer down into a lush and verdant ravine. We found the rustic trail to be relatively secluded compared to others we have been on in the region. The trail was so secluded that we saw quite a few delicate spider webs with leaves and petals floating in them like dreamcatchers.

Soon, we discovered dense patches of wildflowers including brilliant dames rockets. We did eventually reach an open meadow absolutely full of wildflowers. The trail throughout did have some rolls in spots and was narrow in sections but in general easily manageable.
Fields of wild geraniums added some pink vibrance to the forest floor and grassland. |
The Woodlands Open to Lake Michigan Views
Trails crisscross ravines and open up to splendid Lake Michigan views. The lake was particularly calm during our visit treating us with a divine bathtub unfolding before us.
Lake Michigan views always awe. With these splendid views, stunning ravines and beautiful woodlands. Warnimont Park has easily become one of our favorite Wisconsin parks for hiking.

The portion of Warnimont Park we wound about represents a particularly fragile environment including fens, southern mesic woodlands, grasslands, bluffs and ravines. The Warnimont Bluffs Fen State Nature Area is a specially protected environment only open for research and education. Warnimont Park is known as an exceptional native plant community. Additionally, we found it exceptional for birding.
We look forward to returning to this natural treasure in future. We found Warnimont Park to include such an interesting assemblage of ecosystems and nature experiences. We are eager to explore again and make new discoveries!
