Why Plant Native Plants?
Native plants are essential for supporting our native wildlife including bees, butterflies and birds. Planting native plants helps ensure the biodiversity of our region while supporting our pollinators. Mammals use natives for important cover. A variety of wildlife consumes seeds and nuts from natives. Monarch butterflies only can lay eggs on milkweed making the presence of the plant essential. Adding more native plants to our region increases vital habitat and enriches our wildlife experience.
I have been planting natives in my yard for over a decade. They return year after year. Plus, I have created a lovely progression that keeps elements in bloom all the way through fall. I enjoy quite a range of wildlife visiting my yard.
What I love about native plants in addition the wildlife they support is that they in general are easy to maintain - because they are specially adapted to our region! However, when choosing the ideal plants for your yard remember to consider soil and light conditions. Overall, my natives don't require much watering. They do not need fertilizers or pesticides which not only indicates ease of care but encourages gardeners to introduce potentially harmful chemicals into our environment.
