Ongoing Visit Oak Park Conservatory for a warm-weather escape and brilliant blooms without leaving the 'burbs. Admission is free, donations are appreciated. While in the area check out the Frank Lloyd Wright Home and Studio and other Frank Lloyd Wright homes.
February 5 - May 29 Houses of Tomorrow: Solar Homes from Keck to Today, Elmhurst Art Museum, Keck's Glass House of Tomorrow designed for the 1933 World's Fair was the first in the USA and groundbreaking in terms of solar energy, learn about his designs and others taking into account sustainable practices, advanced ticket purchase required, $15 per adult, $12 per senior, kids are free
February 12 - March 27 The Orchid Show, Chicago Botanic Garden, be dazzled by displays of stunning wild orchids, ticket prices vary, see website for ticketing details
March 12 - May 29 Secret Life of Butterflies at Nicholas Conservatory in Rockford, experience butterflies flying around the conservatory, watch them emerge from cocoons, see website for ticketing info

March 19 Sap's Rising, River Trail Nature Center, Northbrook, 10:30AM and 1:30PM, walk in the maple forest and learn how maple syrup is made
