While exploring the M. John Johnson Nature Center, I was not expecting to encounter a hilly walk. Initially, our trail was a bit flat and even opened into a meadow. We eventually rounded to a hillier section. The preserve is actually owned by PECO Energy hence the power lines that create an interesting juxtaposition with the nature surrounding them. The site is managed in conjunction with the West Chester Fish, Game and Wildlife Association.

Hiking along the trail, we took in peeks of East Branch Brandywine Creek meandering along beside us. Every view revealing the river delighted us. While the preserve was dotted with other walkers as well bikers and we could hear a bit of the traffic from the road nearby, we still felt the beauty of the preserve.
Loved looking at the nature sculpted angles of layered rock along the East Branch Brandywine Trail. |
Our visit started off as a little aside to fill in some time, however, we ended up discovering a lovely hiking trail system with picturesque views of a rocky landscape. We would love to explore the area further including hiking at Harmony Hill Nature Area which is on the East Branch Brandywine Trail. During a future visit to West Chester, we will carve out a little more time to uncover more in this string of nature havens.
