We have a spring weekend ahead plus we will be celebrating Mother's Day! Here are my picks for this weekend:

February 5 - May 29 Houses of Tomorrow: Solar Homes from Keck to Today, Elmhurst Art Museum, Keck's Glass House of Tomorrow designed for the 1933 World's Fair was the first in the USA and groundbreaking in terms of solar energy, learn about his designs and others taking into account sustainable practices, advanced ticket purchase required, $15 per adult, $12 per senior, kids are free 

March 12 - May 29 Secret Life of Butterflies at Nicholas Conservatory in Rockford, experience butterflies flying around the conservatory, watch them emerge from cocoons, see website for ticketing info

Fermilab Natural Areas in Batavia are back open! The natural areas -- which are home to a herd of bison -- have reopened to the public. See website for details on admittance.

April 29 - May 15 Lilac Time, Lilacia Park, Lombard, lilac heritage walks, arts and crafts fair, village cottage tours, parade and more, see website for more details

May 8 - ongoing depending on blooms Tulip Festival at Richardson Farm, Spring Grove, about 2-3 weeks of bloom time, opening day May 8, fields of tulips, games, food trucks and more, see website for tickets

May 7- 8 Spring Planting on the Farm, Kline Creek Farm, West Chicago, 10AM-4PM, see how families prepared to plant for the season in the late 1800's, maybe you will even plant some seeds, house tours start each hour, suggested donation $5

May 7 May Fest, Grayslake Heritage Center, 12PM-4PM, art, live music, free

May 7 Mothers of Nature, Willowbrook, Glen Ellyn, 1PM, hear how wildlife cares for its babies and make a Mother's Day craft, ages 8 and up, under 18 with a parent, must register, $5

May 7 Lake County Film Fest, Spring Fling, 1PM, Lake County Community College, family-friendly, $10 per person

May 7 Country in the Park, Downers Grove Museum. 12PM-3PM, Founder's Day celebration, demos, animal visits, 1850's era games and more, free oak seedlings, free

May 7 Tank Park Tour, Cantigny Park, Wheaton, 2PM-2:45PM, learn about the history of tanks while touring the tank park, $10 parking

May 8 Mother's Day Celebration, Volkening Heritage Farm, Schaumburg, 12PM-2PM, stop by to make a handmade gift for mom and enjoy the trails, free

May 8  Willowbrook Happy Hour, Glen Ellyn, 4PM-5PM, learn about the preserve's animal ambassadors as they enjoy dinner time, $5 pp, must register
