Exploring a Manmade Island in the Middle of the Fox River in Elgin, Illinois
Disclosure: Thank you to Explore Elgin Area for hosting our visit.
Walton Island in Elgin may be small but the island provides for a nice little nature adventure right in the city. Once just a muddy patch, the local Isaac Walton League launched an effort to enlarge and stabilize the island in the 1930s. Today, the island offers a lovely little spot for a nature wander.

We enjoyed spying baby ducklings and goslings during our visit to Walton Island. We even found a lovely mother goose sitting upon her nest. We loved strolling around the manmade island just as trees began to blossom. A little pond in the middle of the island added another spot for spotting bird friends.

A large American flag sculpture rises from the island. The sculpture is reminiscent of an early flag sculpture crafted from rock by the renowned artist Trygve Rovelstand. Rovelstand designed Elgin's Pioneer Memorial Statue. The metal flag sculpture crafted by Outside Exhibition Group waves vibrantly over the island.

Walton Island is located just south of the dam on the Fox River. We watched ducks and geese navigate the rush of the dam.

The island burst with joy as we ambled spotting newlyweds taking pictures as well as new graduates. We stumbled on a favorite Elgin photo spot! Another wonderful memory from our trip to Elgin!
